Checking in with Whats On Your Workdesk Wed again. More time is spent at your desk 'not making a project' than producing a project. The things that turn out to be a project for me they are the ones that fly along. I think I resolve things when I have a clear path in mind an end rather than a starting point. I know that is not how it works for everyone. I admire people who can just start to play and end up with something amazing. I am definitely a planner.
WOYWW is a great prompt to share the stuff you do that may not otherwise see the light of day - stuff that might be interesting to others but is not 'a thing.' I suppose Journals are a bit like that but people tend to post pages that are resolved from their journal rather than those still hanging in the air. Well here's today's desk:
Ive been playing with lots of paint, ink, infusions, embossing powder, lots of different media but all in one palette Mint, Sage, Claret and Gold. Paperartsy's latest Challenge suggests these colours. So far its all experiments.
I am not sure where they will go. last month I spent ages trying transfer techniques. All interesting but none that I used to make 'a thing' with. I am enjoying this play and I like a lot more of the results. I am planning to carry on for another day and then tidy up and actually use them.
Hope you having fun at your desk this week. Thanks for calling in to mine. x
If you haven't heard of WOYWW Its been going since 2009. Julia Dunnit, who began it, says she started it "because I'm nosey and wanted to see what other people have got and what other people do at their desks whilst I'm busy procrastinating."
Bit like most of the Internet then! I like this outlet for the chaos that sometimes reigns on my desk or head.

Playing with blue paint and ink
I have had a difficult week settling into any project. I have an album to finish which I am procrastinating about and I have been avoiding it all week. With the internet its so easy. I often turn to the computer when I am stuck, but an hour on Pinterest usually leaves me so overloaded with
possibilities I become totally indecisive and
I walk away from my desk. I have read a few articles on how social media sites
can actually dull your own ability to be creative. Ironically I did read them on a
blog. I imagine you are reading this on my blog! I am not saying that all the inspiration and
imagery out there is not helpful, the problem is that it can become an end in
itself. I can use
up the whole day looking rather than making. Don’t get me wrong I love the way
the internet opens up the world to us. I love to blog, look at and connect with what everyone
out there is up to, to see and share other people’s creativity. It’s great to get some inspiration but with
Pinterest, Instagram, 'blogland' and Google images it is easy to overwhelm yourself and get creative
brain frieze.
If we don’t trust and explore our own visions, draw on our unique life,
tastes and influences from the world around us then everything starts to look
the same - an endless recycling of the ideas out there. We need to look inside
ourselves and trust our own creative vision.
Today I settled in and just played and have pinned (I mean physically!) up some blue strips on my sloping studio roof. They might have become little books or cards but I am happy for them just to be. I suppose journal pages are a bit like that - space to play. I often find tiny pages and individual sheets work better for me.
Hope your weekend has been creative and fun. Thanks for visiting, even if it is on the computer!
